Corrupted Hard Disk

I never go for studying in IT when I was schooling. I only attended for the classes to learn the MS.Word. How much do you know about the hard disk? I think you might know better than me. I read at Makoy's blog about his corrupted hard disk. This sound serious and I hope I do not have any problem with hard disk.
